UPDATED: Shot fired near Bowman Hall at Kent State University campus

UPDATE: 11:58 p.m. The suspect has been apprehended off campus and police say there is no longer a threat, according to an alert from the university.

UPDATE: 11:44 p.m. - The Business Administration Building has been evacuated, according to an alert from the university.

UPDATE: 11:39 p.m. - The suspect is still at large but not believed to be on campus, according to university spokesman Eric Mansfield in a news conference. 

UPDATE: 10:59 p.m. - The shelter-in-place advisory for Kent State has been lifted, according to an alert from the university. The Business Administration Building is still being evacuated, according to police scanner traffic.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Kent State University police are investigating reports of a shot fired near Bowman Hall in Kent and advising people to seek shelter in place until further notice, according to a text message alert sent out at 8:49 p.m.

University spokesman Eric Mansfield said police are searching for a black male in dark basketball shorts carrying a silver handgun.

Mansfield said one bullet was fired into the ground. There were no other shots and no one was injured.
