Kent State University police are investigating reports of a shot fired near Bowman Hall in Kent and advising people to seek shelter in place until further notice, according to a text message alert sent out at 8:49 p.m.
University spokesman Eric Mansfield said police are searching for a black male in dark basketball shorts carrying a silver handgun.
Kent State University was locked down for several hours Wednesday night after reports of shots fired on campus. Shortly before midnight, KSU officials announced that the suspect had been apprehended off campus. The suspect's identity was not released.

The body of a Streetsboro man reported missing on Monday was found Tuesday morning in a swampy area in Rootstown, not far from where he was last seen Saturday night.
Streetsboro police said the body of James J. Goggin, 25, was found at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday in a swamp north of Karry Drive in Rootstown, less than a mile from where he was last seen in the 4300 block of Tallmadge Road at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday.
