Boy, 9, charged in Stow house fire

STOW SENTRY Published:

A 9-year-old boy was charged with fourth-degree felony arson in connection with an early evening fire at his Williamson Road home Monday.

Stow Acting Fire Capt. Mark Stone said the fire is estimated to have caused about $80,000 in damages, about half of which was contents of the home and with much of the damage smoke related. The occupants of the home, however, including two adults and five children, escaped and there were no injuries. Fire officials said the fire apparently started while the boy was in a bedroom playing with a lighter.

Stow police said the boy was referred to Stow Youth Services in lieu of filing the charge in Summit County Juvenile Court.
