Clyde: Kent layoffs 'devastating'

Published:

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde of Kent, in response to the announcement that 19 public school teachers were being laid off in Kent, termed the loss of teachers "devastating."

"A strong public education system is critical to our children and our future economic success. That is why the recent announcement about the loss of 19 teachers at Kent public schools is so devastating," she said. "Over the last three years, our Kent schools have been hit hard by deep and devastating state budget cuts totaling over $7.4 million.

"We must demand that Gov. Kasich and Republican leaders in the state legislature understand the impact of these state budget cuts on communities like Kent and push for a new approach that prioritizes public education in Ohio.

"My heart goes out to these teachers and to the children and families in Kent and Portage County who continue to suffer under these harmful budget cuts."
