UPDATE: Gas leak closes part of North Chestnut Street in Ravenna

UPDATED at 2:50 p.m.: North Chestnut Street in Ravenna has reopened after a gas leak closed a portion of the road and forced the evacuation of Ravenna High School.

At about 2:45 p.m., Ravenna Superintendent Dennis Honkala said Dominion East Ohio gas company gave the "all clear" for the high school, meaning the building is safe. Students were sent home for the day at about 1:15 p.m.

A gas leak on North Chestnut Street in Ravenna has closed a section of the road and forced some evacuations, including Ravenna High School.

Workers installing sidewalks along North Chestnut Street apparently cut a gas line while they were working Monday afternoon. Dominion East Ohio is on the scene as are area police and fire departments.

Workers at the North Chestnut Medical Arts Building at 6693 N. Chestnut St. were told to remain in the building.

  • I am so glad this was handled okay and everything properly handled and getting everything under control while finding the line that was cut into So glad Dominion East Ohio ¬†were on the scene to help. Thank you for all who helped, including Sherriff's deputies from all departments involved and in alll areas where special help was needed and the firefighters, men and women alike who were involved in the leak in the line left by workers on Monday ¬†Thank you one and all.
