Pioneer Cemetery is Kent's oldest graveyard, dating to October of 1810. The cemetery, located on Stow Street off Haymaker Parkway, near Kramer Field, holds the remains of some of Kent's earliest settlers, such as the Haymakers.
In recent years, volunteers have given a small amount of time over the spring, summer and fall to tend a particular plot.
Volunteers are encouraged to become a part of this Adopt-a-Plot program sponsored by the Pioneer Cemetery Preservation Group, a branch of the Kent Historical Society. People interested in learning more about this group encouraged to attend the group's spring meeting at 2 p.m. May 4 at the Old Kent Jail at Fred Fuller Park.
