BP will stop drilling in Ohio Utica Shale

From staff and media reports Published:

BP announced Tuesday in its quarterly report that it is abandoning plans to drill in the Utica Shale to focus on other oil and gas drilling operations.

WFMJ.com reported Tuesday that Curtis Thomas, BP director of communications and external affairs said that BP launched an appraisal of the Utica region in Ohio, leasing 105,000 acres in several counties, 80,000 in Trumbull.

Out of the eight wells drilled, four are producing. Based on results of the appraisal, Thomas says that the results do not fit the BP business portfolio.

Thomas said BP will put the leases up for sale.

BP has no wells in Portage County.
