New art exhibits opening in downtown Kent (with gallery)

A new group of paintings and pastels are in the show "Trees and Barns" at the Group Ten Gallery, 138 E. Main St., Kent.

Jance Lentz's oils explore scenes of trees in different seasons. Also new for Lentz, and shown for the first time, is a group of pastels of barns.

"Barns are such an iconic image of Ohio and the midwest" said Lentz. " Many are in disrepair and collapsing. The variety of shapes and sizes of barns is amazing, and to me provide a "springboard" of using color and shapes and shadows."

Also, Jeff Fauser's new collage show at Group Ten Gallery is titled, "Reconfigurations." These fifteen large collages are a departure for Fauser, who has been working with collage for the past twenty years. The new pieces are loosely based on earlier, much smaller work.

In order to complete these new pieces, Fauser enlarged earlier compositions approximately seven times. Once enlarged, the pieces were cut up and the enlarged work then reconfigured, taking on new, highly energized compositions. By increasing the scale of the collages, new spatial situations and elements have presented themselves. Each reconfigured collage has taken on a new life and diverges in dynamic ways from its earlier, smaller composition.

The two-person show at Group Ten Gallery begins at 6 p.m. Friday with an opening reception which is open to the public.

Group Ten Gallery's entrance is off Burbick Way, the alley behind Woodsy's Music. For more information, visit www.grouptengallery.com.
