Students in Troy Spear's Wood Product Technology class at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent constructed and installed a bench in memoriam to A.J. Nicholson, a Stanton Middle School student and Franklin Township boy who died from a gunshot wound in an apparent accident involving a teenage relative in March. Many of A.J.'s friends also participated in the project that culminated with the bench's installation outside the middle school library on May 30 -- what would've been A.J.'s 12th birthday. About 30 students worked with staff and others to complete the project. The engraving on the bench reads: For our friend AJ Nicholson. From left are Bryce Hammond and Dominic Bernadine, who both had integral roles in preparing materials for the project, and Michael Doherty, who helped with routing and mortising legs on the bench.
