Work is progressing on the Main Street Bridge project in downtown Kent, where concrete slabs being used to reconstruct the deck of the span were lowered into place Friday by a large crane.
The bridge is being rebuilt over the CSX Railroad tracks. Work began in mid-June and the bridge is slated to be closed for 75 days during the construction project.
The $800,000 project calls for replacement of the beams and deck of the 37-foot structure over the CSX tracks at the eastern end of the bridge. The 1877 stone arch bridge, which is a separate structure, is not affected by the work.
Main Street is closed between Gougler Avenue and Franklin Avenue for the duration of the project.
