More than a dozen department directors and non-union employees of the city of Streetsboro will get raises, which will be retroactive to Oct. 8.
City Council voted 5-2 on Nov. 28 to approve raises ranging from 2 percent to 23 percent from 2016 to 2017. Dissenting votes were cast by councilmen John Ruediger and Jeff Allen.
Allen said the city can’t afford such a large increase, and Ruediger said he would like to put off raises for some newer employees on the list who haven’t yet proven themselves.
Mayor Glenn Broska said he proposed the raises to bring department head salaries and other administrators into a competitive range, compared with other area cities.
