Brimfield police officers will serve breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Brimfield Applebee's to raise funds for the Shop with a Cop program.
Children will visit with Santa and receive a gift. The breakfast will include french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, juice and coffee.
“The breakfast is completely served by police officers,” said Patti Harjung, administrative assistant at the police department. “Then Santa comes in and visits all the children. We let parents take as many photos while they're there.”
Breakfast with Santa started when Applebee's opened in Brimfield.
“When Applebee's opened they invited us to participate,” Harjung said. “They had done this at their other restaurants. They gave the police department a memorabilia corner at the restaurant where we put up pictures and trophies and the fire department has a display area.”
All proceeds from the breakfast will benefit Shop with a Cop, which will take place on Dec. 17.
“That's what this Breakfast with Santa is all about,” Harjung said. “It's a fundraising activity, plus it gives folks the opportunity to see Santa and meet police officers in a positive setting.”
This year, Brimfield officers will take 50 children shopping at Walmart in Brimfield as part of the Shop with a Cop program. Each child will be given $100 to buy gifts for themselves and family members.
“The children will be dropped off at Applebee's where they will be served breakfast for free,” Harjung said. “Then a chaperon will take the child to Walmart. They can spend $100 any way they would like to spend it.”

After breakfast, Brimfield Historical Society and Kelso Museum will hold a Christmas Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the McCormick Heritage Meeting Room. Families are welcome for a morning of crafts and fun.
