Police are seeking a suspect in a double shooting Wednesday afternoon on Henderson Road in Ravenna Township that ended with a male victim dead and a female victim in surgery at a nearby hospital.

The suspect in the shooting was identified as 25-year-old David Darnell "Dblock" Calhoun Jr., with a last known address on Mull Avenue in Akron.

Portage County Sheriff David Doak said law enforcement is looking for Calhoun, and that he should be considered armed and dangerous. He is believed to have fled the scene on foot, but may have gotten into a waiting vehicle.

Responding officers and deputies quickly set up a perimeter and briefly placed Ravenna High School on lockdown, but Calhoun was not located.

Anyone with information on Calhoun's whereabouts is asked to call the Portage County Sheriff's Office at 330-296-5100, extension 0 (zero).

Doak said that deputies first responded following a call at 2:22 p.m. for "multiple shots fired" to 6684 Henderson Road.

A 33-year-old male victim was found dead at the scene, he said, and a female victim who was hit by gunfire was taken to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. She was in surgery as of 6 p.m., Doak said.

Doak said his office was withholding the names of the victims until their families were notified.

Ravenna High School briefly was placed on lockdown after school let out Wednesday as the incident took place in a neighborhood just west of the school campus, behind the stadium. No students or staff were in danger, according to schools Superintendent Dennis Honkala.

University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, located on North Chestnut Street, was not placed on lockdown. Spokesman Mike Ferrari also could not confirm if any shooting victims were taken to the hospital.
