The Ohio Department of Transportation announced this morning there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 23, celebrating the reopening of the reconstructed bridge on SR 14 spanning Lake Rockwell.
ODOT District 4 Public Information Officer Justin Chesnic said the actual opening of the bridge would take place within days of the ribbon-cutting ceremony as crews finish last-minute work on the bridge.
The bridge was closed Oct. 3 when crews from the Ruhlin Co. discovered pylons supporting the bridge were near buckling. The crews were repairing bin walls on the bridge when they discovered the condition.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on the north end of the bridge, closer to Diagonal Road and Streetsboro.
The Ruhlin Co. has completely replaced a 162-foot section of bridge.
Since the closure, eastbound traffic has been rerouted along SR 303 to SR 44 southbound. Locals also have used Infirmary Road. Another option has been taking SR 43 south to Kent, then taking SR 59 east toward Ravenna.
