April 28 has been proclaimed Arbor Day in Ravenna by Mayor Frank Seman.
The day, which is observed around the world, celebrates the planting of trees.
"Trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life-giving oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife," the proclamation states.
Trees are also cited in the document for providing paper and wood for homes, fuel for fires, and increasing property values.
"Trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal," the document states.
