ODOT will start new projects in Portage this week

The Ohio Department of Transportation has several new projects in the works in Portage County.

S.R. 43 over I-76 in Brimfield and Suffield Townships is reduced to one lane in each direction nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for bridge repairs.

Beginning June 5, S.R. 43 between the Stark County line to just south of Tallmadge Road and between I-76 to Brimfield Drive will have various daily lane restrictions for resurfacing and bridge repairs.

This work is the beginning of $2.1 million project to resurface S.R. 43. The project also includes minor bridge repairs and is scheduled to be completed by August.

S.R. 88 in Nelson Township between S.R. 305 and the Geauga County line has various daily lane restrictions for chip sealing.

This work is part of a $900,000 project to chip seal various routes in Ashtabula, Portage and Trumbull counties. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late July.

In the City of Kent, starting June 5, at 9 a.m., S.R. 261 westbound between Franklin Avenue and Mogadore Road will be closed through June 6 at 5 p.m. for bridge repairs. The detour will be E. Howe Rd. to S.R. 91 to S.R. 59 to S.R. 43.

Then, beginning June 8, at 9 a.m., S.R. 261 eastbound between Franklin Ave. and Mogadore Rd. will be closed through June 9 at 5 p.m. for bridge repairs. The detour will be E. Howe Rd. to S.R. 91 to S.R. 59 to S.R. 43.

This work is part of a $1.8 million project to make bridge repairs to the S.R. 261 bridge over Plum Creek, just east of Mogadore Road. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by late September.

US 422 eastbound in Nelson Township is closed between the Geauga County line and the Trumbull County line for four culvert replacements. The detour is S.R. 282 to S.R. 305.

This work is part of a $700,000 project to resurface US 422 between the Trumbull County line and the Geauga County line. The project also includes the replacement of four culverts and is scheduled to be completed by late July.
