Former Mogadore employee charged with stealing village funds

A former Mogadore village employee has been accused of stealing between $1,000 and $7,500 while serving as assistant clerk-treasurer.

Lisa A. Grenus, 49, of 297 S. Cleveland Road, was indicted May 16 on one count of theft in office, a fourth-degree felony, according to court records.

A Mogadore Police Department investigation revealed that the funds were taken between May 1 and July 31, 2014, according to Grenus' indictment.

She was booked into the Portage County jail at 10:35 p.m. Friday, according to the Portage County Sheriff's Office. She posted $1,000 bond Monday and was released from the jail pending arraignment, court records show.

The case is assigned to Common Pleas Judge Becky Doherty's courtroom,. An arraignment date was not set as of Monday afternoon, according to court records.

Mogadore Police Chief Todd Higgins referred all questions to village Law Director Joel Reed. A message seeking comment was left Monday for Reed.
