A 2-year-old girl was killed Wednesday after being struck by a minivan on South Diamond Street in Ravenna.
Ravenna police said officers responded at 11:04 a.m. to the 1200 block of South Diamond Street for a report of a child struck by a vehicle. Ravenna police Capt. David Rarrick said the driver stopped after the crash and is 'being very cooperative' with authorities.
The Ravenna Fire Department transported the victim to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center on North Chestnut Street, where a medical transport helicopter was placed on standby.
The girl died in the hospital emergency room, police said. Police did not name the victim or the driver of the vehicle.
Ravenna police Capt. David Rarrick said no further information was available Wednesday afternoon pending notification of family members and others involved.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Portage County Prosecutor's Office are assisting Ravenna police in the investigation.
