A motorist who rolled his car Wednesday morning on S.R. 5 in Paris escaped with only minor injuries, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Ravenna post commander Lt. Antonio Matos said the motorist was westbound on S.R. 5 when he lost control after passing S.R. 225.

The man was "just driving down the road, only going 55 (mph)" when he rolled the car, which was left sitting on its side on a hill.

A tree against which his car came to rest held the vehicle up on its side, preventing it from rolling down a hill and causing more damage or serious injuries, Matos said.

The driver was trapped but suffered only minor injuries. Firefighters responded and extricated the driver using rescue tools.

"The hardest part was getting him out" of the wrecked vehicle, Matos said.

Reports that the crash was the result of a high-speed police chase are not true, he said.

A witness who reported the crash "made it more descriptive than what it was," Matos said.
