In an unexpected twist fit for the plot of the long-running comic book, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man appears to have turned to a life of crime.
The suspect in the June 9 robbery at Ohio Auto Loan store on West Main Street in Kent was wearing a mask belonging to the iconic Marvel superhero, according to surveillance video images posted Friday on the Kent police Facebook page.
A store employee was not injured, but was shaken up after the suspect, who purported to be carrying a gun, snuck up on him inside the store at about 11:30 a.m.
The robber escaped with an unknown amount of money, climbed into a waiting, light blue Chevrolet four-door sedan and fled, police said. A search of the surrounding area by Kent officers and a Portage County Sheriff's Office K-9 team failed to locate the suspect.
He is believed to be a thin white or Hispanic male, approximately 6-feet tall with facial hair. He was wearing not only the mask, but a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt with breast pockets, black pants and dark tennis-style shoes with red or orange laces, according to surveillance photos.
There currently is no description of the driver of the getaway car. Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspects is asked to call the Kent Police Department at 330-673-7732.
