Summer is finally here.

We have been celebrating since April.

It has been a fast first half of the year, and we look forward to slowing down during the summer months.

In April we celebrated with 35 members of the graduating senior class from Streetsboro High School. Any of the students who had a 3.5 or above were joined us for lunch and heard speaker Matt Kamenash from Kent State University.

He spoke told students when they go to college it's first time they are really accountable for their actions.

"Make the right choice and do the right things," he advised them.

We honored Joran Delgross and Joseph Beaver with scholarships for their essays they wrote to the Chamber.

As a community, we should be proud of the students and the school community. This was a great opportunity for the Chamber and the students to interact.

In May, we crossed our fingers, hoping that the rain would finally stop. On May 19, we hosted the Chamber's 18th annual golf outing at Raccoon Hill Golf Course in Kent.

Eighty-eight community members joined us for a day of golf, raffles, and fellowship.

We wouldn't be able to host such an event without the help of the volunteers for the day. Our Board of Directors were out in full force, along with community members who need to "give back", and I even brought my mom out for the day with her famous sausage sandwich "snacks" for the players -- thanks mom!

The celebration continued in to June with the grand opening of two businesses in Streetsboro.

On June 9, the UPS Store owned by Steve and Natasha Schwartz hosted a ribbon cutting, tours, and business after hours, welcoming nearly 30 people to the store, which opened in January.

Last Thursday, we celebrated the opening of Dr. Martin Layman's new office on Market Square Drive. Employees gave tours of their state of the art dentistry facility, hosted a ribbon cutting and business after hours for their clients and the Chamber.

Metis Construction, 175 E. Erie Street, Suite 303, will be hosting a member's only business after hours on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. for both the Kent and Streetsboro Chamber members. Please check either of the websites to register.
