REMINDERVILLE -- The village is on a hunt for a new director of operations after Mario Molina, who was hired for the position in February, retired effective June 9.
Before taking the director of operations position, Molina, who has lived in the village since 1985, served on Village Council from 2001 to 2004 and again from 2011 to 2016.
Molina left Council initially to care for his wife, who had cancer. He returned in 2011 and served his last five years on Council as president.
Molina's duties as director of operations included oversight of the new $5.1 million Reminderville Athletic Club at Glenwood Boulevard and Liberty Road, and for keeping the roads maintained in the village, service director duties that were transferred to the new position when Sam Scaffide left the village.
The director of operations is paid $45,000 per year.
From toddlers to seniors to all mobilities in between, the RAC offers a unique blend of country club and commercial. The two-story, 44,000-square-foot facility features a 5,000-square-foot fitness center open 24/7, a suspended 3-lane track overlooking two basketball and volleyball courts, a "Splashpad" for the kiddos and a pool.
The RAC employs two people full time (the director of operations and a programming director) and 20 to 25 people part time (lifeguards, latchkey workers and program instructors). Molina says the RAC is more than halfway toward a goal of 3,700 members.
"To see the athletic club come to fruition, it really still is more exciting than when I bought my first home," Molina has said. "To see people using the facility and the facility staying full is just awesome. It took all of us, especially the last group of Councilors, to get where we are."
