Residents who travel on S.R. 303 through Mantua and Shalersville will have to use alternate routes beginning Monday.
That day, the Ohio Department of Transportation will begin replacement of two 303 bridges, including one over Elliman Run, which is just east of the Streetsboro border, and one over Shalersville Ditch, about halfway between Infirmary Road and S.R. 44, said Streetsboro Mayor Glenn Broska.
According to ODOT, the closures are part of the first phase of a $1.6 million project to replace the bridges and pave S.R. 303 from the eastern limits of Streetsboro to S.R. 44.
ODOT District 4 Public Information Officer Brent Kovacs said the project should wrap up by mid-September. Traffic will not be maintained during the bridge work.
Near the end of July, he said another project will start on the east side of the city. Diagonal Road and Frost Road between Page and Elliman will be paved for about $633,639, plus engineering. The city was awarded a $400,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission to help.
During the S.R. 303 shutdown, Broska said Streetsboro fire and EMS crews will automatically respond to 911 calls along S.R. 303 that will be isolated from the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department.
During the Diagonal and Frost road paving, Broska said traffic would be able to get through, but there will be lane restrictions and flaggers. Less traffic than usual will be on Diagonal Road due to the closure of S.R. 303, he added.
On Monday, the city's resurfacing program begins in earnest, as well. The following roads will be resurfaced: Fairacres Avenue from Fronek Road to South Delmonte Blvd., Rodney Street from Frost Road to Stewart Avenue, Edmond Avenue from Rodney Street to the dead end and Kickapoo Pass from Seminole Trail to the cul-de-sac, according to Broska's Facebook page.
