UH to host event to celebrate 100 years

'Health and Safety Day' set for July 22

University Hospitals Portage Medical Center invites area residents to celebrate the hospital's 100th anniversary at its annual Family Health and Safety Day July 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents of all ages are welcome to visit the UH Portage Medical Center campus at 6847 N. Chestnut Street in Ravenna for free health screenings, education and demonstrations. The event also will feature family-friendly activities featuring the UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Safety Squad.

The event will feature free, walk-up screenings for balance and grip, blood glucose (sugar), bone density and cholesterol, as well as assessments of body mass index, hearing, stroke risk and need for colon cancer screening. Free carotid vascular (neck artery) assessment for stroke risk, leg and foot blood circulation health assessment, skin cancer checks and lung function testing will be available with pre-registration by calling 800-883-3674.

Special activities for children will include the popular Teddy Bear Clinic (injury prevention), fingerprinting and an inside look at a fully equipped ambulance.

As part of the 100th anniversary celebration, guests will enjoy complimentary cake, refreshments and a special commemorative gift for each family.
