Hiram starts drug take back drive

Rachel Hagenbaugh Published:

By Rachel Hagenbaugh STAFF WRITER With the launch of the Hiram Police Department's "Prescription Drug Take Back" program, villagers have a place to drop off their unused prescription medications for proper disposal. Free secured deposit boxes were offered to law enforcement agencies in Portage County through Portage County Waste Management, Chief Ed Samec said. Hiram's dropbox is located at the front entrance of the police department, 11617 Garfield Road. Anyone is welcome to bring their prescription medications and deposit them," Samec said. Ravenna, Streetsboro, Brimfield and Aurora police departments, as well as the Portage County Sheriff's Office, also have secured boxes to drop off old prescriptions. Samec said the goal of this program is to deter flushing medication down the toilet and contaminating the waterways. Contact this reporter at 330-298-1123 or rhagenbaugh@recordpub.com
