By Tom Nader Record-Courier staff writer Garfield senior quarterback Robert Carlisle was recently selected to be honored at the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. Carlisle's standout performances on the football field for the G-Men this past season, as well as his excellent academic accomplishments, qualified him as a 2006-07 high school scholar-athlete award winner. As the team's starting quarterback, Carlisle led the G-Men to their third consecutive league championship this past fall. He went on to lead the boys basketball team to a third-place finish in the Portage Trail Conference County Division, and he is currently participating on the Garfield baseball team. Carlisle will be recognized May 8 in a banquet at the LaCentre in Westlake. The event's featured speaker will be University of Pittsburgh head football coach Dave Wannstedt. Also in attendance will be Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel, who will present the Lee Tressel Award, as well as Bernie Kosar, who will present the Postgraduate Scholarships. Comments
