MANTUA A female driving a Dodge Caravan was transported by helicopter to Hillcrest Hospital in Cleveland Wednesday evening, following a collision involving two semi-trucks at the intersection of S.R. 82 and S.R. 44.
The unidentified female was headed eastbound on S.R. 82 at about 10:30 p.m. when she made contact with an unloaded car hauler of DL Heritage Transport Inc. of Windham, which was headed southbound on S.R. 44, according to the Ravenna post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The female made contact with the steer axle of the car hauler, causing the semi-truck to go left of center and strike another semi-truck of Central Refrigeration Services of Utah, which was headed northbound on S.R. 44.
The Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department extracted the female using the Jaws of Life apparatus and she was transported to Hillcrest Hospital.
The two semi-drivers were not injured in the accident, also according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The Central Refrigeration Services semi-truck was carrying a load of cheese products. Cleanup crews, including the Ohio Department of Transportation and Interstate Towing, assisted in clearing the roadway, directing traffic and unloading the cheese until about 6 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The accident remains under investigation. No citations have been made as of Thursday evening, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
