U.S. Lacrosse has selected 98 players from around the country to participate in the final tryouts for the U.S. Women's Developmental and Elite teams. Former Kentite Rachel Culp, sophomore at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., was among those selected to compete. The 98 players were selected from a pool of about 180 players who competed during the first round of tryouts in the Stars and Stripes Division at the U.S. Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament held May 26 and 27 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The final tryouts for the 2007-08 U.S. Developmental and Elite team were held in August at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. Culp, a 2005 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, earned a full tuition scholarship in lacrosse at Virginia Tech. She is majoring in pre-medicine and minoring in psychology at college. Rachel's brother, Jamie Culp, who has recently relocated to Frisco, Colo., from Aspen, is sponsored by High Society Freeride Company, for which he has also done some snowboard design work. He is also sponsored by Obermeyer and competes in local and national competitions. He is a 2002 Roosevelt graduate. Joel Culp of Denver, their father, is a sales representative for Alliance Medical Inc., a national distributor of emergency medical supplies. Comments
