The coach of the Ravenna High School junior varsity boys basketball team is being held at the Portage County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond on charges of rape, aggravated burglary and felonious assault.
Eric W. Thomas, 28, of 714 Woodgate Blvd., Apt. 101, Ravenna, was arrested following an incident that occurred around 2 a.m. Friday, according to a Ravenna police report.
The report indicates Thomas allegedly kicked in the door of a Ravenna residence, assaulted a male at the home and then raped an adult female at the home.
Thomas was arraigned Friday afternoon in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna, where bond was set at $500,000 cash. A preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. Friday, court records show.

Let me make myself clear. I am by any means justifying or convicting anyone from either side here. It just seems that before the truth and conviction is decided, we must be aware of all sides- possibilities. I felt like the side of the one charged wasn't being presented. If he's guilty, he's guilty. If he's not, he's not. The fact is, like I said, this is Tragic for many individuals. I hope and pray for all involved, especially the woman, that rape was not a factor.
So far, I haven't heard anyone saying it is okay to rape. I think the main concern here is we do not know what happened yet. Charges have been made, convictions have not been made. Being a "nice guy" certainly doesn't get you out of blame- I think we all can assume that! Rape is devestating. Violence is devestating. Watching loved ones go through this is devestating. NO ONE is giving any excuse for anyone, becuase NO ONE knows exactly what happened except for the woman, victim of assault, and the gentleman charged, and of course God. All that we can and should do here is hope that the truth is what we are left with and justice is served!
