At least 200 people braved Tuesday's snow to hear Chelsea Clinton drum up support for her mother, Sen. Hillary Clinton, during a stop at Kent State University.
The former First Daughter thanked the crowd that showed up in a steady snowstorm to hear her speak on behalf of her mother, on a day when classes at KSU were canceled because of the weather.
"I have to admit I'm jealous. When I was in college we didn't get snow days," joked Clinton, a graduate of Stanford University in California. "Just a lot of rain."
Only a few hours before the Democratic debate at Cleveland State University, she told the crowd that she wanted to "help you be a better advocate for my mom."
Students and members of the community, some holding "Hillary for President" signs, asked questions about many of the issues being batted around this election season, from healthcare to the Iraq War to education and jobs in Ohio.
"My mom will end the unfunded mandate known as No Child Left Behind" and push to begin education earlier because "we know the achievement gaps we see ... are visible when kids walk in the door in first grade," Clinton said.
In both primary and higher education, "we need to end the war on science," and "invest in future partnerships with universities in stem cell and global climate research," she said.
Chelsea also pleased the mostly college-going crowd by saying her mother promises to double the maximum Pell Grant available to students to $10,800, provide $3,500 per person in tax credits so more students can afford college and put an end to the "complicated" Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA form, an announcement that drew applause.
As for the Clinton campaign promise of universal healthcare, Chelsea said her mother was talking about universal healthcare in 1993 and 1994 and would bring such a program to 100 million un- or under-insured Americans through tax credits and healthcare parity initiatives.
A Hillary Clinton administration also would close tax loopholes that "reward companies for outsourcing jobs" overseas because "we as Americans should not be subsidizing that," Clinton said. Instead, Hillary Clinton would work to "green" the federal government by insisting on new energy-saving initiatives and subsidize "green" vehicles through the U.S. auto industry.
"We want our car industry to be part of the solution" and a source of job growth again, Chelsea said.
In response to questions from anti-war advocates, Chelsea criticized the Bush administration for getting the United States involved in the Iraq War.
"The tragedy of this administration is its allergy to anything multi-lateral," its adherence to "cowboy diplomacy" and unwillingness to engage nations such as Iran or Syria at the conference table, she said.
In comparison, "my mother actually believes in the Constitution," she said.
After the question and answer session, Chelsea " who turns 28 today " stayed to sign autographs, take photos with her mother's supporters and was serenaded with a rendition of "Happy Birthday To You." She was scheduled to drive to Cleveland Tuesday night to watch her mother debate Sen. Barack Obama.
"You should hold your government accountable for what it's doing and what it's not doing," she said.

You can put anything you want into paper form, but actions speak louder than words, and when Clinton was in office he had enough of Daddy Bush's mess to try and clean up, and did enough to keep most middle class people going. No, I am not a teacher, I have just lived thru enough recessions and enough of the republicans, that most of the young voters cannot see or even know what the groups represent. Republicans represent the very wealthy anymore, and that's about it. Your small businesses will not make another term, and the gaps are becoming wider. Bush has done nothing for this country, but pad his pockets of his family and his friends businesses. Be it Clinton or any other Democrat in office, usually they have to clean up the previous messes first before they even get a chance to prove of what they have in plans to work.Every administration taxes, that's been a given since George Washington started. The programs the Republicans cut are usually aimed at the working middle class. You'll never see any of them approve anything for the MRDD, or health issues, or programs for the family benefited. As far as your businesses, sending them all overseas, is not the answer, and if you studied any economics, you know it not good for our country. So, obviously you must have your own business, and that's why you take the stand you do.

"You should hold your government accountable for what it's doing and what it's not doing," she said.
We, the People, should hold our government accountable for what it does and does not do . . .
This should be our rallying charge, and the credit can go to this Clinton.

You are probably right Rageman. My investigation was a couple of websites(maybe partisan, not sure) and a comparison of mine and a group of my friends (about 8) looking at some of, not all of ouur own w-2s from the past 10 years. If I offended anyone I apologize. Look at your w-2's.
Ohio education organizations refute flawed tax foundation study; "The Tax Foundation's 2008 Business "Climate" Index rated Ohio as the fifth worst state in the nation in terms of a favorable tax climate for business."
http://www.dailycourt.com/articles.php/3202
And the list goes on and on and... Google for yourself
Early History of "The Tax Foundation";
It was founded at the University Club in New York in 1937. Founding members included:
Alfred P. Sloan, General Motors Corporation, chairman
Donaldson Brown, General Motors Corporation financial vice president
William S. Farish, Standard Oil Company, President
Lewis H. Brown, President of the Johns-Manville Corporation
Bill Archer PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP
Wayne Gable Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation
R. Glenn Hubbard Columbia University
James W. Lintott Sterling Foundation Management LLC
Joseph O. Luby, Jr. Exxon Mobil Corporation

In my humble opinion, I find The Tax Foundation to be a partisan advocate of Right-wing Corporate Republican Neo-Conservative Friedmanian economics. Look at the people and their Corporations that built and have been piloting this ship since day one. Personally, I place no faith in their opinions or alleged statistical accuracy. But you judge for yourself.
Can ANYONE, in fact present a statistically ACCURATE tax table like AverageJoe tries to offer here? I think NOT.

Galleywench - You must be a teacher or something. The Schools in this country have plenty of money. They waste so much it is incredible. I have worked for a couple of systems in Portage county and all the schools are, are miss managed cash cows.
Now before you say this chart below is propaganda, do some research. It is right on the money.
Also how many of you have stocks or any other property that is effected by capital gains tax? Clinton raised that tax from 15 to 30% as soon as he got into office. (Bush lowered it to 15% again)This, NAFTA and other programs are what chased our big companies out of our country. Also making China a favored trade nation killed this country.
Also the 90's faith in the .com boom.
Is Bush innocent, NO. Gas prices are helping kill an already critical middle class. But dont think that the 2 above are going to be the heros. They are already promising huge tax increases that you and I will absorb through higher prices only to be given to some cause or welfare program. Notice none of them are talking about lowering gas prices?
Also, If you DO NOT put business first you will not have a middle class. because most of our so called middle class people work for our companies. By hurting the companies, which Democrats are known for doing, we get rid of our high paying jobs. Most companies are willing to pay good money for good workers, just look at the auto unions in the 60's and 70's. Then Jimmy Carter got in and Big government took over. If our companies are taxed, and fee'd and premiumed to death so that they can't compete in the marketplace they have no option but to leave.
Also another fact most people do not realize is that most companies do not pay taxes directly, their tax bill is forwarded through the cost or price of their products. Like insurance premiums it is a cost of doing business.
So if you think Barrack or Hillary are going to open up a factory in Ohioand give you all great jobs, you better think again. They can fight for the young and retiress all they want but if we arent producung anything, how are we going to pay for anything? They may say they are for the middle class or the "little people" but their voting records prove otherwise. Become an informed voter before you vote.
Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250
If you want to know just how effective the mainstream media is, it is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If any democrat is elected, ALL of them say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait

Yeah, so much for the Bush's "no child left behind...that's because they need more of your tax dollars to fund it! When will young (and older retired) people not see what party is going to fight for all you "little people"? Someone that wants to put businesses first will NOT support the middle class. Thanks to Chelsea for going teh extra ile to get her message out!

That girl sure has "Purty" lips.
Bet if she was an intern under Bill Clinton's admin, and was not his daughter, she'd really go far with Bill.

Is that really her? Did she have the freckles surgically removed, or what?
I wonder if THAT would be covered under Universal Healthcare...

Wonder if she fielded any questions from the pro-war advocates?
