Two Kent State University football players were arrested Friday on charges of felony burglary, and a third former player is wanted on a warrant on the same charge.

Cabroni D. Mixon, 20, of 1953 Mohawk Place, Kent, and Brian Lainhart, 20, of the same address, were arraigned Monday in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna via video from the Portage County jail. Each is charged with one count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, according to court records. Both were arrested Friday by Brimfield police on the warrants.

A third man, Christen L. Haywood, 20, of 103 Lake Hall, KSU, also is facing the same charge but has not yet been arrested. Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said a warrant has been issued for Haywood's arrest.

According to the complaints, filed by the Brimfield Police Department, the charges stem from an incident that occurred Oct. 28 in the 4800 block of Sunnybrook Road. The three are accused of entering a home by force and causing multiple injuries to two other men.

Brimfield Police Chief David Blough said there was a party attended by football players and others at the Sunnybrook Road address. An altercation occurred when a female friend of one of the players was slapped and hit.

The suspects allegedly kicked in the front door of the residence, as well as the pedestrian door from the garage to the house.

"The people inside had locked the doors to try to prevent these people from coming in," Blough said.

Vigluicci said the charges stem from a lengthy investigation by the Brimfield police.

He would not comment on specifics of the case due to its pending nature, but a statement was issued by Kent State Athletic Director Laing Kennedy on Monday about the charges.

"At the time of the incident last fall, the players involved were disciplined per athletic guidelines and were suspended," Kennedy said. "Now we are reviewing the current situation to determine if any further action is warranted.

Haywood was removed from the team the week of the incident. He then transferred to Eastern Kentucky University.

Lainhart is the team's starting safety, and missed the Flashes' game following the incident because of his punishment. Mixon transferred to KSU prior to the start of the 2007 season. In 2006, he was a red shirt freshman at The University of Michigan. According to the Web site www.rivals.com, Mixon was a 4-star prospect and the No. 8 inside linebacker nationally in his recruiting class.

On Monday, bond was set at 10 percent of $75,000 for each. Both had bond posted by Tina M. Lainhart, according to court records.

Preliminary hearings on the charges have been set for 9:30 a.m. Friday in Portage County Municipal Court in Kent.

The fact that they're black football players instantly makes them thugs. Interesting. If these guys were white lacrosse players, I bet these idiots' opinions would change drastically. Why, they'd be "defending a woman's honor"! How noble of those boys.

I found this VERY telling. "Im Not a Bad Person" writes:

"I am fortunate that the members of the golf (boy and girls), baseball and wrestling teams are polite and good citizens."

Let me translate.

I am fortunate that the members of basically all-white sports are polite and good citizens.

I'm with you, Rage. Well said. I'm glad there are still intelligent minds back home.

Rage..WOW! I may have lost IQ points reading that attempt to convey intelligence by using such perspicacious articulateness. Thank God for goverment assistance and CSI Miami...you are set for life.

First, the past event I intimated to in my opening paragraph speaks for itself. You know the one I mean!

Please, "Read and Comprehend"! And note my attempt at "wry humor" by my comments! Nothing I said "faults" the prosecutor and cops for any lack of due diligence. My comments (re: "four months") has to do with the solitary charge in a matter that curiously didn't result in multiple other formal charges, especially for other parties to the event.

The article states; "The three are accused of entering a home by force and CAUSING MULTIPLE INJURIES to two other men." Where are the ASSAULT CHARGES? ESPECIALLY after FOUR MONTHS! Where are the assault charges against the person who reportedly slapped this girl? It is intelligent, logical and reasonable to ask!

Yes, "Vigluicci said.. ..He would not comment on specifics of the case due to its pending nature.." I get that. Standard Disclaimer, ..designed mostly to keep the public in the dark.

Re; "Arm chairs are the BEST!" You say, "How about if the female CALLS THE POLICE to report HER assault, ...". Yeah, in a perfect world! First of all, YOU WEREN'T THERE and you don't know the circumstances in which her being assaulted took place! For all you or any of us knows from this article, she might have been inside the house with the assault in progress while the "alleged burglars" were trying to reach her to save her. YOU DON'T KNOW!!

Was the conduct of these young people inappropriate and unacceptable? On the face of it, of course it appears so. That's not in dispute here.

Much of the angst that provoked me to comment at all to this article and in the manner I did, stems from the thoughtless, racist connotations of the one commenter and the "rush to judgement" and the exuberance of another commenter to irrationally vilify college students and the Kent State University as a whole for the actions of the few who are the rare exception to the rule. There are more than a few commenters on this forum who do this repeatedly. I doubt any of these people have any formal authority or professional standing to criticise KSU, or any of its parts! Some of you sound like the maniacs that have to be forcefully removed, kicking and screaming, from the stadium or arena by Security.

The student conduct is solely for KSU to deal with. The criminal matters are solely for our courts to deal with. The two things are distinctly different and separate! But for some people, the opportunity to vilify college students every chance they get or to display their racism whenever possible is just too tempting to resist.

You use the word "posse" in your comment, a word both familiar to "black Rap music" and often used to denote vigilantism by a group of people. I'm at least curious about the reason behind your decision to use that particular word to describe this group of young men and their actions, the provocations for which, you don't know . I'm going to assume you chose to use it as a synonym for "vigilantes". Only you know what your true intent was. I admit that I don't know and I'm not accusing you of anything. I just find your decision to use the word curious.

And of course, as everyone knows, I never denigrate anyone. ...right! At least never by race or class.

Some people will never be happy. Now it's the fault of the prosecutor and cops. How about if the female CALLS THE POLICE to report HER assault, instead of a posse kicking in doors and beating people. So what if the investigation took four months? I know...you could do better. Arm chairs are the BEST!

Gee, it's too bad that none of the fathers of any of these players are Portage County judges. They would then only be facing disorderly conduct charges. Well, if they were ..the right color.

And who do these college kids think they are, becoming enraged at a man slapping a woman and then, trying to get away with defending that woman from a violent physical assault, ..especially in Portage County! Exactly what one should expect from these "irresponsible College Kids"!!

"Vigluicci said the charges stem from a lengthy investigation by the Brimfield police." "...the charges stem from an incident that occurred Oct. 28". OCTOBER 28!?!? So, you're telling me that after FOUR MONTHS of investigation, NOW you come up with a single charge against each of these "alleged burglars"? Do you notice that, after FOUR MONTHS of investigation, no assault charges have been filed here.

Hillbillies of Portage, Unite!!! Keep that race and class hate spewing at all times! Strive with all your might to always be part of the problem and never part of the solution! Always regard intelligent progressive thinking as a mental defect. A simple mind is an unencumbered mind.

Oh my, another case of a KSU athlete being charged with criminal charges. When will it stop. I say never. The bigger crime is that the Athletic Director seems to condone this behavior with a slap on the wrist. One way to stop this alleged criminal behavior is for Laing Kennedy to impose a strick one strike and you are OUT.

I was outraged when several weeks ago a basketball player was charged with DUI and got a one game suspension. Remember that a twenty game win season with sub par teams is more important than teaching a young person a lesson. Expect more of these incendents when there is no real penalty.

The lesson some athletes are learning is the wrong one and makes it difficult for Kent State University to pretend to live up to their self-imposed designation of "EXCELLENT IN ACTION." I am waiting for the KSU president to upgrade its "imagine" image to EXCELLENT IN ACTION SQUARED". YEAH.

I am fortunate that the members of the golf (boy and girls), baseball and wrestling teams are polite and good citizens. I was in the gym the other day and saw a group of young men being loud and acting like jerks. Three of the seven had shirts with the label "Kent State Univeristy football." I do not know if they were members of the team or not but they appeared to be.

LET ME SEE IF I UNDERSTAND THE LESSON "COMMIT A FELONY ONE AND GET A ONE GAME SUSPENSION". OK IT GET IT.
