The Hugh A. Glauser School of Music announces the return of La Catrina Quartet and the Summer Chamber Studies for young musicians from June 20 to 29 at Kent State University.

The 2008 festival will include strings, collaborative piano, percussion and vocal studies.

Students will be accepted through an application and audition process.

Recordings and applications are due May 1. Applications are available online at www.ccs.kent.edu/chamber.

For further information, call Lucy Zaynor at (330) 673-4741 or e-mail SummerChamberStudies@kent.edu.

Participants will take part in private lessons, chamber ensembles, masterclasses, theory classes and eurhythmic movement classes, all under the direction of the quartet, Daniel Arguedas, Gerrey Noh, Ted Rounds and Melissa Davis.

Special guest artists will include Eduardo Cota, Nicole Brockmann, and members of the Miami Quartet.

Student activities are created to teach individual and group performance techniques that will challenge each student to reach his or her highest level of musicianship.

Prospective students are expected to be motivated, disciplined and comfortable with a significant amount of independence.

The program is designed for children with musical aptitude who want the opportunity to study with outstanding teachers and other young musicians who have the same desire to excel.

Summer Chamber Studies was established to offer young musicians a quality summer music experience.

By working individually with each student, the teachers strive to cultivate each performer's individual talents and encourage additional development through a variety of approaches to musical accomplishment.

While it provides students the opportunity to work one-on-one with instructors, the strength of the program lies in the chance for young musicians to work together in various ensemble settings, building collaboration and communication skills.
