Staff report
Former Ravenna resident Matt Jordan was recently offered the Grove City High School head football coaching position.
Jordan, a Ravenna High School graduate, was formerly the head football coach at Garfield High School and then moved on to coach at Painesville Riverside.
"Matthew Jordan's name will appear on the March 10 school board meeting's agenda," said Sandy Nekoloff, the executive director of communications for the South-Western City Schools. "Of course, there is nothing concrete until board approval."
During the last three seasons at Riverside, Jordan has led the team to a 19-13 overall record.
He helped Riverside qualify for the Division I state playoffs in both 2006 and 2007.
Last season, the Beavers finished the season at 7-3, which gave them the regular-season championship within the Premier Athletic Conference.
In the 2007 state playoffs, Jordan and Riverside were defeated by eventual state runner-up Mentor in the first round, 38-14.
As for Grove City, the team struggled to a 2-8 regular season under head coach Scott McIntire.
McIntire was added to the Grove City coaching staff in 1986 and was named the head coach in 2003. His career record as head coach was 25-28.
Grove City qualified for the playoffs in 2003 and lost in the first round to Lancaster, 56-28. The team made the playoffs again in 2005 and won its opening round game, then lost to Hilliard Davidson.
