The city of Kent and Kent State University will host two open houses Thursday to discuss the Kent Central Gateway, a proposed transit center considered to improve the connections between neighborhoods, campus and downtown. The first open house will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. in the second floor lobby of the Kent Student Center. The second open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in Kent City Council chambers at 325 S. DePeyster St. The purpose of these sessions will be to review conceptual layouts for the facility, according to a press release from the consulting agency, Columbus-based TranSystems. The public will see exhibits showing the different proposed layouts and have the chance to review the positive and negative aspects of each. Each option will include green-building aspects. Both entities are working with the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority in proposing a transit center to enhance bicycle and pedestrian linkages, increase mass-transit use and support economic development. Several public meetings have been held to obtain input during the decision-making process. Now, public comments will be important to help the study team narrow down the conceptual layout options to a single concept for the Kent Central Gateway building, according to the release. Comments
