MANTUA -- The community met the village's newest physician, Dr. Yongjin Chen, who specializes in family medicine and geriatrics, at an open house this week.

At University Hospitals' new Mantua Health Center, Chen provides a broad spectrum of primary care services to patients.

He greeted many visitors Tuesday and gave them a look at the new medical practice.

"Everything's going well," he said. "They did a great job with the new medical facility and everything's brand new."

Chen has been an active member of the Geauga Medical Center's medical staff since 2007 and is a graduate of Beijing Medical University.

His special interests include family medicine, general pediatric care, disease/cancer screenings, laceration repair and skin lesion removal, chronic disease management, obesity control, depression and anxiety management, women's health and geriatric care.

"I look forward to serving patients in Portage County," he said. "I'm pleased to be here."

The 2,500-square-foot medical facility is located in the Village Opportunity School building in downtown Mantua, which dates back to 1929.

Mayor Donna Hawkins attended the open house and took a tour of the renovated school house.

"It's beautiful," she said. "They really did a great job with the renovation."

The new medical center features diagnostic capabilities, examination rooms and is staffed by rotating physicians and medical specialists.

Hawkins added that the medical practice is a welcomed addition to the community.

"This is a huge asset to the community and it's something we've needed in Mantua for a long time," she said. "It's wonderful."

Mantua Health Center is located at 10803 Main St. and business hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and half-day service on Saturdays. Same-day appointments are accepted.
