The public is invited to a Veterans Day screening of the film "Sir, No Sir!" about the G.I. anti-war movement during the Vietnam War. The award-winning documentary depicting the soldiers" rebellion will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent, 228 Gougler Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The film shows that the resistance movement spread through barracks and brigs, through ships and army bases. The troops started over 100 underground newspapers and opened dozens of anti-war coffee houses. Hundreds of soldiers went to prison or into exile for resisting the war. By 1971, entire units were refusing to go into battle, and one colonel complained that the movement had swept the armed forces. Few Americans today know of the extent of this rebellion among soldiers. The screening is free and open to the public, and child care is available. The film is sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent. For more information, contact Vivien Sandlund at (330) 221-4958. Comments
