Officials described a chlorine gas leak at the Kent Water Treatment Plant on Hodgeman Lane this morning as minor with no reported cases of exposure to the harmful gas.
The leak, which was reported at 11:19 a.m., was determined by fire officials to have been minimal and primarily contained to one building.
Kent fire department and Portage County Hazmat Team members cleared the scene at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Kent safety officials said the leak was well-contained with no immediate danger to residents or people in the area of the plant, which is located near Dix Stadium.
Chlorine is a chemical used in the water treatment process and, in gaseous form, can be harmful or even deadly if inhaled.
