Birthday: Marjorie Bassett is honored at age 100

Marjorie Bassett celebrated her 100th birthday recently during an open house at Fred Fuller Park in Kent. Lois Summerlin served as hostess for the 100 people in attendance.

Marjorie was born Aug. 13, 1908, to John and Ethel Barker of Cleveland.

She attended John Marshall High School. She lived in Cleveland 50 years and Strongsville 44 years, and she has lived at Brookside in Ravenna for the past six years.

Marjorie Barker married Howard Bassett on June 29, 1927, and they were together until his death on March 19, 1985. Their children are Ray Bassett of Port Clinton; Lois (and the late Al) Summerlin of Mantua; Charlotte (and Dale) Parsons of Donnellson, Iowa; and Ralph (and the late Gertrude) Bassett.

Mrs. Bassett has 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was employed with Schueman Jones Drug Co. Her hobbies include cutting stones and making jewelry, as well as oil painting and traveling. She attends Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua and is a member of the Lapidary Club. She received special greetings from President and Mrs. Bush, among others.
