Katherine Thomas Elementary School in Windham is closed Tuesday due to a power transformer fire near the school.
Windham Local Schools Superintendent Carol Kropinak the transformer fire prevented buses and other traffic from reaching the school.
"There was a transformer fire on a pole at the entrance to (Katherine Thomas) drive, so it was unsafe," Kropinak said. "It was nowhere near the school itself. You just could not get back to the school."
Kropinak said the district expected to have power restored to the building by Tuesday afternoon.
She said the school will be open for classes Wednesday.

I would have been nice to have received a phone call to let us know school was closed. We don't watch the news when the weather is nice, not really a reason for a weather alert. It would be great if we had the reverse 911 like other school districts.
