Two men have been sentenced in connection with the Dec. 27 beating and robbery of a Ravenna man.

Four men were charged with numerous felony charges stemming from the incident, in which the man was beaten, robbed and stripped of his clothing. The victim was placed in the trunk of his car and was dropped off in West Farmington in Trumbull County, about 30 miles east of Ravenna.

Kevin McCoy, 23, of 10872 Mantua Center Road, Mantua, was sentenced to eight years in prison by Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman.

Pittman sentenced him to eight years in prison for kidnapping, a first-degree felony; five years in prison for robbery, a third-degree felony, and six months in prison for assault. All three sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of eight years in prison.

Nicholas Trusnik, 19, of 1546 Lancelot Drive, Streetsboro, was sentenced April 20 by Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow. Enlow sentenced Trusnik to four years in prison for kidnapping, one year in prison for robbery, and another six months in Portage County jail for assault, with all sentences running at the same time. He also was sentenced to an additional year in prison for failure to comply, giving him a total of five years behind bars. His driver’s license was suspended for two years, and Enlow stated that he disapproves of Trusnik being placed in a Shock Incarceration or Intensive Prison program.

Eric A. Bacon, 19, of 9520 Jerome Road, Shalersville, and Edwin E. Jones, 37, of 161 E. Cedar St., Apt. 22, Ravenna; both entered guilty pleas in Portage County Common Pleas Court in March. Bacon is scheduled to be sentenced next week by Pittman, and Jones is to be sentenced next week by Enlow.

As it is there is no opposition at election time. These people are always a sure deal to stay in, because of those who see to it.

Elections.....What choice does one have to vote? As you see how they pool together for an individual they despised.

The sentencing must be implemented to the maximum for these criminals. The recidivism rate for these career criminal is a revolving door, never to change. Plea bargaining is a joke, done because the court system case load, court trial, juror trial is beyond belief. Start convicting these thugs for the crimes that is committed, not reducing the charges, throwing charges out just for a guilty plea.

These elected people have become immune to the violence, only when death occurs after years of crime will they (the judges) ever open their eyes to prevent further bloodshed of the innocent people. Enforce the death penalty.

Why do the residents of Portage County accept this (light sentences) from the Judges that are ELECTED?

There has to be a couple of lawers who will run on a platform of strict sentening.

I agree with heartland. Commit a violent or vicious crime in portage county and you get the equilivant of a vacation from these judges. I think we should all remember this when it comes time to vote.

Heartland

No, you are not the only one having a problem with these light sentences. I have been complaining about Lenient Laurie for some time. It surprised me that she gave him 8 years. The sentences should run consecutively for each of these scumbags. Then maybe it would stop some of this stuff.

Judge Enlow and Lenient Laurie are both to dam lenient and should be removed.

I cannot believe the shortness of the sentences for these crimes. Enlow gave the guy 4 years for kidnapping? At least Pittman gave 8 years. A man was kidnapped, beaten, robbed, shoved in the trunk of a car! Am I the only one who has a problem with this? Portage County will not get cleaned up until we start being less tolerant of crime.
