ROOTSTOWN — A badly beaten elderly man was taken by a medical helicopter to Akron City Hospital after he was assaulted at his home. The four people charged in the crime are in the Portage County jail waiting to be arraigned.

The victim was attacked at his Tallmadge Road home early Thursday morning. His name was not being released immediately.

Portage County Sheriff David Doak said Jodi Fetty, 27, of 3647 McClintocksburg Road, Diamond, approached the man’s home at approximately 2:30 a.m. and told the resident she was having car problems and asked to use his telephone.

While she was using the phone, two men appeared on his porch and the resident went out to see what was going on.

The suspects — identified as Cortez Oliver, 20, of Fairlawn, and Jonathan Dukes, 23, of 3865 Blake Avenue, Ravenna — then allegedly beat the man.

Doak said the suspects entered the home and stole numerous coins from the victim’s coin collection. They then fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Darrell L. Dukes, 21, of 3075 S.R. 59, Ravenna.

The victim was taken by helicopter to Akron City Hospital because of his severe injuries.

Doak commended the work by the off-duty Ravenna police officer who was working security at the Ravenna Giant Eagle store.

“He was monitoring some of the radio traffic and when (Fetty) came to the store to cash in the coins, he put two and two together and approached her. She ran and he apprehended two in the parking lot. That led to us getting the other two later (Thursday afternoon),” Doak said.

Oliver, Dukes, Dukes and Fetty are being held at the Portage County jail on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault.

They are all scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

lollipop:

It seems that not only do they live there but they attract thugs from other communities, as if we need Fairlawn's trash.

Thanks, hangemhigh. Based on what you say, felonious assault is not the right charge. If he is laying on the floor and the assailant snaps his neck the intent is clearly murder. The charges need to be upgraded.

Old Ma,

You are right to be concerned and right to be ticked off.

Draygreen,
You are a victim of you own bad decisions. YOU are the one who made the first batch of kids, YOU are the one divorced, YOU NOW HAVE A SECOND LITTER. I do not feel sorry for you for I am sure this is not the end of your stupid mistakes. You angry me, using this old man's suffering and pain for your self gratifying rants. YOU are unable to support yourself and YOU made decisions destroying not one but two families. Off yourself! The children will get the support they deserve from SSI and the world will be done with your whining.

OLD MA,
as of yesterday he is just starting to be able to move his fingers and his lower arm a bit.
a friend who got to pay him a visit says that he actually remembers the big black guy grabbing him by the face and throwing him to the ground, he then remembers him reaching down and actually feeling his fingers across his face and him jerking his head to the side snapping his neck. this is so brutal and uncalled for it's sickening.

also meddiver112 its not about when i decide not to pay support payments its when i have to chose to either pay to keep the lights on and food on my table for my new family or pay support to my ex who lives in a $350,000 home she doesnt have to pay for,,, and no im not jelous im actually happy atleast for my kids atleast i know they do not go without but on the other hand if my ex really needed money maybe when she finds out where i work and calls till i get fired proves the concept she doesnt need money just another way to hurt me for some reason

well meddiver112 if you want to get technical its real hard to keep up with support payments when your ex runs up $12,000 in bills in your name 10 years after the divorce. calls your boss 6 + times a day to say do you know so in so is a criminal and everything else just to get you fired and you keep talking to your case worker and making every payment you can but get picked up for non payment.. but yet nobody wants to do anything about the ex running bills up in his name getting him fired from more than one job... no does that sound fair? why is it a crime when you dont pay court ordered support but its not a crime to not give court ordered visitation . so yes i have every right to complain as much as i do and im going to keep complaining everywhere i can until either someone decides to help or give advice on what to do here. and i know getting a lawyer is going to be said but when i talk to them and they want $2000 just to get started .. if i had 2 grand i would have sent it to pay support
