By Diane Smith Record-Courier staff writer A Rootstown man is in jail after allegedly stabbing a man and assaulting two other people in a day-long dispute Thursday. Robert C. Westfall, 46, of 3608 Lynn Road, Rootstown, is being held in the Portage County jail on a $150,000 bond. He is charged with felonious assault, a felony domestic violence charge and two counts of assault. Portage County Sheriff David Doak said his deputies responded to numerous incidents at the home throughout the day, only to find that Westfall had fled before they arrived each time. “It was quite a cat-and-mouse thing,” he said. Doak said the trouble started at about 10:30 a.m. at Westfall’s home, when deputies were called to a domestic dispute involving Westfall, his wife, Debra, and Frank Brooks, who also lived at the residence. Westfall allegedly assaulted both, but fled before deputies arrived. Westfall returned to the residence around noon, Doak said, and assaulted Brooks and his wife again. Again, Westfall fled before deputies arrived, and Brooks and Debra Westfall were transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries. At 4:24 p.m., Brooks called the sheriff’s office to say that Westfall had returned and brought a friend, Brian Wiley, 48, of Ravenna. Another altercation took place between Westfall and his wife, Doak said, and Wiley was stabbed in the shoulder when he came to the woman’s aid. Deputies arrested Westfall while he was trying to flee the scene, and Wiley was transported to Akron City Hospital for treatment. Information on his condition was not available.
