Northcoast Medical Training Academy in Kent will offer one annual Marlene Peoples Emeritus Practical Nursing Scholarship. Peoples, a registered nurse with a Master of Science in Nursing, has served the Ohio Board of Nursing, the local community and the student body of Northcoast Medical Training Academy since Jan. 1, 2006. She was instrumental in the foundation and design of the facility's practical nursing program. Three years ago, Northcoast dedicated its new practical nursing wing to Marlene Peoples. In honor of her service to the school, upon her retirement, the Academy has established the Marlene Peoples Emeritus Practical Nursing Scholarship. Each year, she will select one high school graduate or community member to receive the scholarship, which will cover the tuition cost of the Northcoast Medical Practical Nursing Program. The criteria necessary for the scholarship require that people who seek to learn and practice nursing have three qualifications: 1. High school or college grade point average of 3.0 or higher, or a General Equivalency Diploma with a minimum score of 50. 2. Proven membership in clubs or organizations that promote interest in health care, the environment or furthering community interests. 3. A one-page essay explaining why this person should be awarded a scholarship to the Practical Nursing Program based on his/her experiences of volunteering time and talents to causes bigger than themselves, plus how the person plans to further the nursing profession. The application and submission essay to should be mailed to Marlene Peoples, Emeritus Scholarship, Northcoast Medical Training Academy, 1832 S.R. 59, Kent, OH 44240. The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2010.
