By Dave O’Brien Record-Courier staff writer A Randolph man, wanted by police after an Oct. 26 Portage County Drug Task Force raid at his residence uncovered a clandestine methamphetamine lab, was arrested Tuesday. Stephen M. Kalcic, 24, of 5309 Waterloo Road, is charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals to manufacture a controlled substance, a second-degree felony. He was arraigned the same day in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna, where Judge Barbara Oswick ordered him held on a $75,000 cash bond. According to a criminal complaint filed in municipal court, task force agents found liquid propane fuel, fuel additive, hydrogen peroxide, muratic acid and match striker plates with the red phosphorous removed — all components of the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine — in Kalcic’s upstairs room. Kalcic was on probation for a previous conviction in 2007 on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine at the time of the task force raid. A preliminary hearing has been set for 10:45 a.m. today in Oswick’s courtroom. Kalcic has requested a court-appointed attorney, according to court records. The Portage County Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the Aurora, Garrettsville, Kent, Ravenna and Streetsboro police departments and the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
