A federal stimulus package worth $6,347,000 approved by the Portage County commissioners for Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy is a nice boost for the college and for the local economy at the same time. The money will be allocated for a $30 million biomedical research laboratory adding 60,000 square feet of space to an existing research laboratory at the college. For the short term, the money will provide nearly 1,000 design and construction jobs. For the long term, it will provide about 49 permanent research jobs. Although it is taking some time for the federal stimulus package to work its way into the American economy, the stimulus is achieving some noteworthy goals. As new construction gets underway, it is providing much needed jobs. The projects being tagged for the federal money also represent permanent improvements that will continue to contribute to the general well-being, in this case, additional research positions at NEOUCOM that will result in findings that will improve the health of the nation. This appears to be an excellent investment by the federal government that will continue to bring a good return for the American people. Comments
