Mantua: Primary school hosts veterans

Veterans and their families attended the annual Veterans Day program held at the Crestwood Primary School in Mantua.

Principal Tom Rauber welcomed the group and recognized those who served in each branch of service, as well as family members who waited at home.

A highlight of the program was the singing of the Second Grade Choir. Its members gave up a recess every day to practice. Directed by Jenny Meeker Gilles, the children sang "The Army Caisson Song" and "You Are My Hero."

The school's students decorated all the school halls for the program. They presented each veteran with a hand-colored picture.

The American Legion Auxiliary's poppy chairman, Sharon Steiner, presented the principal with $100 from Unit No. 193.

Post Commander Joyce Hannum gave $100 from Post No. 193.

Both donations are earmarked for the purchase of books for the library.

The program concluded with the singing of "God Bless America."
