The Kiwanis Young Children's Council of Division 20 constructed Safety Kits that will be given to the Family and Community Services Portage Area Transitional Housing program to be distributed to their families. The kits contain a variety of safety information, learning activities, smoke detector batteries, bandages, hand sanitizer and more. Those YCC members participating in the project are, from left, Esther Cross, Children's Librarian at Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna; Ruth Carnes, director of Early Childhood Services at Family and Community Services; Shawna Borkoski, outreach coordinator at Portage Learning Centers; Janet Verthe, program manager at Safer Futures; and Polly Germer, advocate at the Children's Advocacy Center. YCC's December project will be "Keep the Children Warm" with members collecting hats, gloves, scarves and boots for children up to age 5. Any groups interested in donating or helping should contact Germer at 330-297-8837. Comments
