The SPACE group, Southeast Pirate Athletic Community Endeavor, is having an ongoing fund-raiser through the rest of the month at Acapulco's Mexican restaurant on S.R. 44 in Rootstown. For anyone who eats there on any day except Friday and mentions the SPACE group, Acapulco's will donate 15 percent of their bill toward the SPACE program.

SPACE is a committee that is trying to raise funds to build lighted basketball courts, volleyball courts and other athletic projects for our Southeast students.

The Southeast Athletic Boosters will also be having a fund-raiser coming up on Dec. 11. They will be hosting a spaghetti dinner to be held at Southeast High School from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. where the Southeast Dynamic Dribblers will also perform at about 5:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner will be $5 per individual age 13 and over, $3 per child age 4 to 12, $3 for senior citizens, with 3 and under to eat for free. All proceeds will go to the Boosters organization.

Thank you to KentRidge on Golden Pond in Kent for providing all of the local columnists with a terrific lunch this past month. It's a great atmosphere with delicious food and allows us to chat with one another instead of just reading each other's columns, so thanks again for a nice afternoon.

Southeast Girl Scout Troop No. 1099 recently helped pack shoe boxes for the Wayland Community Church for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child sends close to eight million shoe boxes full of items such as toiletries, school supplies and small toys to war torn countries and also remote villages and impoverished neighborhoods across the world. The girls not only helped pack some boxes, but also provided enough items to fill two shoe boxes and wrote letters to accompany all of them.

I have to apologize to Art Fesemyer for misspelling his last name in last month's column. That's one of my own pet peeves so I apologize for doing it to you.

There also needs to be a correction in regard to his experience in World War II. Arthur Fesemyer of Ravenna served in Patton's 3rd Army landing in Southern France and fighting their way across the Rhine River to Germany and ending up at the Elbe River in Hamburg on V.E. Day.

I also want to thank Diane Hargett Austin and the Wistful Cafe in Edinburg for the pumpkin spice coffee. She read about my problem finding my favorite fall flavor this year and came to the rescue with coffee she sells at the cafe so make sure to stop in and try some. It was great!
