By Mike Sever Record-Courier staff writer Two Kent State University students reported being assaulted and robbed early Sunday morning, bringing to four the number of KSU students who reported being robbed this past weekend. It's the times man, very violent out there. Some folks just don't give a darn about other people. They will rob, steal and beat you up for fun.
How about that retired KSU maintenance man, Richard, who was beat to death out in Rootstown, just because he answered his door to help a female asking for help?
Lots of thugs on the prowl.
We need more people carrying weapons, for their own protection. Try robbing and beating someone when their friends are all packing concealed firearms.

So many of these comments are just beyond stupid. Obviously we need to put more cops on the street in Kent. Are you willing to pass a police levy to pay for it? Are you willing to pass an alcohol tax to pay for it?
This isn't about national politics at all but some posters just can't resist. I'll pass... S

Your headline indicating 4 victims is very inaccurate. It seems the Kent Police don't want you to know about ALL of the robberies around campus. How about the KSU student robbed at gunpoint at 7:00 p.m. last Friday at his apartment? I'm sure this is just one of the many that they don't tell the media about. There is a VERY, VERY SERIOUS violent crime problem at KSU. The death of CK last week and all of the armed robberies better wake-up law enforcement and the administration. While they are ticketing noise violations and harassing students trying to socialize, the bad guys with the guns seem to go unchecked. As a father of 3 KSU students, I can tell you I'm very concerned and expect answers - As parents and students we are certainly paying enough to not have to fear for our lives. Please report on all of the police reports taken for violent crimes - don't let this continue to be hidden.

Why don't you blame the dog while you're at it. You people are ridiculous...blaming everyone but the people who are at fault. There is high crime elelment in Akron that has found a nice little home here in Kent due to the availability of it's college students who purchase drugs. When you invite drug dealers to your neighborhood - you invite crime. To the thugs that live in Akron, these kids are easy pickings and easy targets. The kids here do not expect to be robbed or killed on the street like they do in Akron or Cleveland. Twenty years ago- Akron was a safe place- not anymore. And now Kent will join Akron as a high crime area unless a ton of money is poured into the community. Criminals do not like nice, well lit, high class areas...they like crappy-dilapidated homes, dark alleys and no visible police forces. As long as you have a demand- you will have the supply...it's basic business 101. cut off the demand- and the supply will dry up and move somewhere else.
You can blame Obama and the Pope- but you will still be wrong. Blame the thugs, drug dealers and low life criminals. They are at fault.

I see a pattern also. There have been two recent fatal beating in Portage county recently. Let's look at the facts, both victims-white, all 5 perpetrators(alleged of course)-black. Now imagine if the shoe was on the other foot with black victims and white suspects. God forbid, we would have Obama, sharpton, Jackson and the entire black brigade invading Portage county. Perhaps somebody needs to explain to the black community when , you, yes you, act in such a way the other members of society are going to become a little trigger happy when a black man knocks on the door, approaches after dark or the way thing are going even pass on the street. Glad I live in Mantua and may we stay project free forever.

but hey what do we care? A least we are being spared the nightmare of socialized medicine and gay marriage. Thank God there are still illegal aliens we can hire to work in our factories, or we can always just move them to mexico. People looking for easy answers need look no further than the republican party.
