Thanksgiving is only four days away, and area food pantries are still in need of donations to help local families.
Kent Social Services and the Center of Hope each needs gift cards and funds to buy turkeys, said Debby Missimi, director of food services for Family and Community Services Inc.
Gift cards in $10 amounts from Giant Eagle for the Center of Hope and Acme for Kent Social Services are needed, Missimi said.
Holiday food items such as cranberry sauce, gravy, canned sweet potatoes, cake mixes, canned vegetables, Jello and puddings, canned pumpkin or pie filling are still needed.
Missimi said the two centers have seen more people than ever “and we are still getting calls,”
“We are seeing clients who have never needed to ask for help before and those that haven’t had to ask for help since last holiday season,” Missimi said.
Donations may be dropped off weekdays at the Center of Hope, 1034 W. Main St., Ravenna, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and at Kent Social Services, 1066 S. Water St., Kent, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays. Or donors can call ahead and make arrangements to drop off items.
